Strategy with Heart — What It Really Means

Building strong systems without losing your humanity.
I’ve been in rooms where “strategy” meant charts, data, and endless PowerPoints. But for me, strategy is not just numbers. Strategy is people. Strategy is purpose.
When I say “strategy with heart,” I mean making decisions that center both vision and values. It means asking: Who does this serve? Who does this leave behind? Does this decision align with who we are?
In my own leadership, I’ve seen how easy it is to get lost in the grind. To chase funding, to build systems, to measure outcomes — and forget that at the heart of it all are people. People with stories, with dignity, with hope.
When we weave heart into strategy, we create something that lasts. Something that empowers instead of extracts. Something that builds instead of burns out.
So the next time you’re in a leadership moment, remember: strategy is important. But strategy with heart? That’s transformational.
